Sitting outside next to shed. The shed shook and glass made sound. Like a big bag of sand dropping on the roof. Followed immediately by a second jolt. Felt it in my feet too

It felt horrible. The whole house was shaking as if something huge and very heavy hit the roof or my neighbours house (they're end of terrace). I never suspected we'd have it in here.

Lying in bed reading. Suddenly around 09.45 a loud bang shook the house.  The windows swayed from side to side.  The cats fled in terror.  I was shocked and thought maybe the oil tanks or the boiler had exploded.
Phoned 999 and Police said many calls had been received.  Seems there has been an earthquake....need to check exterior of house......

Well I have to be honest, I was still half asleep and thought it was just one of the cats jumping on the bed.  But my other half said the earth moved for her, so either I’m amazing or we just had our first earthquake!  Seriously though, yes our house shook and felt like someone might of ran a vehicle into our house.  All the neighbours came out to confirm we weren’t going crazy!!!

Possible strike-slip fault, right lateral movement/solifluction. USGS show centre neat Pitstone, area past chalk pits now area of SSSI.

I'm a long way from the epicentre. I was in my loft room where perhaps the 2 seconds gentle shaking was more obvious at the top of the house. It was like a lorry going past.
